This summer at Peak Productivity, we have added some new, valuable tools to our coaching “toolbox”. In June, Elisabeth Galperin [owner of Peak Productivity], became certified in DISC! This tool is helping us get to know our clients better, and to recognize each client’s unique set of motivators, strengths, habits and tendencies. With this deeper level of understanding from the DISC assessment, we can more quickly and efficiently w help increase their productivity and profitability!
As we begin integrating the DISC profile into our client onboarding process, and as we begin utilizing the tool with teams within our clients’ organizations, we’ve already discovered some great correlations between better understanding a professional’s DISC profile and increasing his/her productivity.
Here are five fun facts about the DISC Profile and productivity:
Fact 1: DISC identifies individuals’ motivators.
There is ample evidence from multiple research studies that motivation is an important organizational element that can be used to enhance the productive capacity of workers. In other words, when employees feel highly motivated, they can sustain focus and energy much longer than when there is a lack of motivation.
Fact 2: Teams using the DISC profile improve their communication and collaboration skills.
DISC is designed for the purpose of not only better understanding oneself but also better understanding one another. With improved communication comes an increase in collaboration and positive peer accountability. And, an improvement in accountability naturally increases productivity in the workplace.
Fact 3: Personal development opportunities are highly desirable.
The act of simply providing employees with opportunities for personal development (assessments like DISC fall into this category!) can increase productivity and performance by 20% and reduce miscommunication by 40%.
Fact 4: DISC encourages divergent thinking.
We all know the extreme value of diversity in the workplace. The DISC assessment can help teams understand how much cognitive diversity exists on a team, and can also help teams harness that diversity in a way that improves team outcomes.
Fact 5: DISC supports placing the right people in the right role.
We have all known a colleague who is an amazing person, but not amazing in his/her role. This happens in SMBs quite often. Using the DISC assessment during hiring can help ensure that new employees are hired into the right role, where his/her tendencies and strengths can be maximized. When the right fit is achieved, motivation will remain high, even after the “honeymoon” phase for a new hire, which bring us back to fact #1- productivity increases when motivation exists!
